2013 CX-5 joins Mazda family in IIHS Accolades

Groove Mazda, the #1 Volume Mazda Dealer in Colorado, could not be prouder of the latest honor awarded the all new Mazda CX-5.

The all-new 2013 Mazda CX-5 compact crossover SUV was today recognized as a "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The CX-5 received the organization's highest possible crash safety rating of "Good" in all four tests conducted.

The 2012 Mazda3 keeps getting accolades. An article published in the NY Times recently spoke to the endless positives of the 2012 model.

"Combustion-enhancing direct-fuel injection, piston cavities and an especially high 12:1 compression ratio help the Skyactiv-G engine make 155 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque on regular unleaded. That power-packed compression ratio soars as high as 14:1 in European models running on premium fuel. Subaru edged Mazda, Toyota and Honda to earn the highest score in Consumer Reports' latest report card ranking 13 automakers based on road tests and reliability. But Toyota dominated the magazine's top picks in five of 10 product segments, becoming the first automaker to do so in nearly a decade.

The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) today named its Top Safety Picks--115 vehicles in all. The list includes 15 vehicles from Toyota, Lexus, and Scion, 14 vehicles from General Motors, and 13 each from Volkswagen and Audi as well as the Mazda3.

To go with the supposed 1.3L turbocharged powerplant the next-generation MX-5 will be getting, Mazda's MX-5 development boss Hirotaka Kanazawa also revealed that the 2014 MX-5 will go to a back-to-basics approach towards being a fun sportscar, just like the 1989 original model.
